Nūn Wa Zaytun | 2015 | 50min
While listening to the stories of the people Murad meets with his Mobile Cinema, trekking from one venue to another, Nūn wa Zaytun transports us to another Palestine. We encounter a simple rural life, far from the cultural and social stereotypes of modern, urban Ramallah or Tel Aviv, only kilometers away. Scattered communities come together for a moment to watch films shot in Palestine over 20 years and in which some of them even acted in. This moment of communal harmony and artistic pleasure contrasts rudely with the bitter realities they face in coping with encroaching settlements, the attrition of ancestral land and the daily brutalities of occupation and poverty. From Yanun, where only 5% of the village olive groves are still freely accessible, to Aqabat Jabr camp where refugees wait to return all the while trying to cope, to Bethlehem which gathers in solidarity with Gaza under attack, Murad's films allow people a moment of reverie and hope. In Bayt Marsam, we hear tales of Pharoahs, pyramids, lost jewels and fanatic Israeli and American archaeologists. In the "Hani Amer State", enclosed by Israeli settlements and checkpoints and the wall on all sides, we share a love story of Shakesperean dimensions. From all these unknown and proud Palestinians we learn that their attachment to their land, their homes and families and to their disappearing way of life remains as strong as the Zaytun roots and branches, against all odds and despite all they have endured for generations.
Fly Sylvana! | In Development
An epic that brings together the pains of two peoples over a century, in a story of the love of the Armenian from Palestine, Yusef, for the glamorous Italian starlet Silvana, the namesake of a fine chocolate created from love, a brand which became a part of Palestinian collective memory (in development).
Birth Of Words | Post-Production
A short stage in the life of poet Mahmoud Darwish, characterized by his forceful poetic, political and cultural development. The story of this stage is narrated through 400 documents, kept in storage for 50 years by one of his friends from the days of his youth. From the rare images between these documents and hand written verses, which grew into poems and then to "diwan" poetry, through letters to and from poet friends, such as Rashid Hussein, through interviews with friends who remained anonymous to the broad audience of the poet, all of them narrate to us surprising and amusing story we do not know. This treasure of documents and unknown friends tells us about a stage in his development which has not been documented, although it is perhaps the most important period in the formation of the poet
Being With Juliano | 2011 | 26min
A documentary on the impact of Juliano Mer-Khamis, an artist and activist who lived and was killed for the cause of justice, humanity and empowering youth. Being with Juliano is not a biography of Juliano Mer-Khamis. It is a testament to what Juliano did to empower youth and give hope, so that his accomplishments will not die with him. The film gives voice to those who were inspired by his principles and devotion and stimulated by his energy and creativity. The focus of Being with Juliano is on the multiple dimensions of change Juliano brought to deprived and impoverished youth in Jenin, whose lives have been forever transformed by a theatre created in the midst of a refugee camp. Juliano Mer-Khamis, born in Nazareth in 1958, was the son of Saliba Khamis, a Palestinian political leader, and Arna Mer, a Jewish activist. In 2006, Juliano founded The Freedom Theatre in Jenin Refugee Camp, in continuation of his mother's Stone Theatre project there. The theatre was created with the goal of providing for the camp's youth a safe space where they could freely express themselves and explore their creativity and emotions through culture and art. Over the last six years of his life, Juliano produced and directed numerous plays at The Freedom Theatre. But it was there, on 4 April 2011, that he was shot to death. Although Juliano will be remembered as a talented stage and film actor, his most important legacy is his work with the people of Jenin.
Love, Babies & Apartheid | Post-Production
When the illegal Israeli occupation prevents a Palestinian man from Gaza from meeting his future wife he is then also prevented from witnessing the birth of his child.
